  • Workflow with Final Cut Pro and Sorenson Squeeze?

I am trying to set up a Watch Folder system with Sorenson Squeeze. I want to let Squeeze take care of a numbers of deliveries.

    Example:

When Batch exporting “Item Settings” to “Output 1” Squeeze take care of the files, export DV-PAL, upload this to one FTP-server, export another H.264 with TC-read, upload to LAN, export MP-4 for Web-Sorenson360.

When Batch exporting “Item Settings” to “Output 2” Squeeze take care of the files, export MPEG-2 and put it into an ISO-DVD-image.

I have like 6 different operations/output folders suiting different needs in the workflow of the production.

At first I tried to just set up the Watch Folders as most logical, but then I realized it didnt work, I kept getting “Error 34” or other error messages from Final Cut. As far as I figured, this must be because Sorenson Squeeze start taking care of the files before FCP finish writing them.

Then I had another idea. I tried to set up Automator to move the files into the actual Watch Folders. I programmed iCal to make these operations like once an hour and once half and hour depending on the priority of the Output Folder.

It seems to me I still get the same problem with Automator. Automator actually move the files even though they are not finished exporting from Final Cut Pro.

Is there a way to work around this? Preferably without the whole Automator thing of course.
We can not depend on doing those processes manually, at all times, as much of this are operations done at night when no one is at work.

You should probably use Folder Actions, rather than automator. You attach a script to your watch folder that checks every three seconds or so if the size has changed. If not, then your file should be complete and ready to be sent to Squeeze.

Here is a thread about doing kind of what you need: https://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=17912
