Workflow – possibility to autoUpdate footages ?
Hello guys,
In order to improve our workflow we might switch from FCP7 to Premiere.
I was wondering If it was possible to auto Update footages.
For now we are exporting files from AFx to a server then the editor will choose the footage and import it (for ex: footagename_v0x.mov ).
Would it be possible to have some kind of Watch folder where for every new version of a footage will be updated automatically or by pressing a refresh button( file would be something like that : footagename_v0x+1.mov )is it possible natively or using a script or a plugin?

I would replace footages already added manually.
If scripting in premiere uses extends riot or something similar I could write a script to do so.
But if something exist already … Why not using it 🙂 -
Well I was thinking that any scripting for a replacement can happen at the OS level….
as long as a copy of the file lands in the same location with the same exact name….that’s what will be used.
so:
AFx > a file location with original file name from AFx
then
an OS script copies the new file to the location PPro is reading from AS the file name PPro is using.

what does AS mean?
The thing is the new version of the footage would be named with an incremented version. like name_v01 name_v02 name_v03 etc…
so PPro would have to check if there is a new version available and update it.doing this in Extenscript on AE would be fairly easy but I dont know how much I can drive PPro with Extend script.

AS is just the word as
wherever AE is rendering to…
run a script at the Operating system level that just copies that file
to a different folder where PPro would be reading the file from
but always rename the PPro file with the same name.
that way it will always link to whatever is current version…
you might be able to do this with a watch folder and Adobe media encoder…
not sure if will allow overwriting though…
