Workflow for 720 24P sequence out to Digibeta 59.94 via BMD Decklink SDI out
The DP/director has shot 720 24PN. The editor has imported the P2 footage and cut the spot on a DVCProHD 720 24P timeline. Graphics have been added and audio post is underway. The final product is meant to be delivered on DigiBeta in letterbox format. What steps should we take to properly introduce the 3:2 pull-down and output to tape via a Blackmagic Decklink HD card (using SD-SDI to the deck)?

Couple ways – what I’d do:
Take final sequence, load into source monitor. Drop into a 23.98fps 8bit uncompressed squence. No fields. Render, render, render…. Then simply output to tape: the BM will handle 3:2 on the fly. BM does have a software based HD-SD downconversion, but it’s soft. a FCP render on High quality will look great.
