Workflow for 23.976 source to 29.97 interlaced for broadcast delivery
I know this question has been asked before, but I’m still not totally clear on the best method.
I have a 1920×1080 23.976 progressive sequence using footage that is also 23.976 progressive. Because I assume progressive will be needed eventually for online use, I have everything in a 23.976 progressive timeline.
For broadcast I need to deliver 1920×1080 29.97 interlaced.
What’s going to be my best option for best delivery?
1. Export the 23.976 progressive timeline directly to a 29.976 interlaced deliverable.
2. Export a 23.976 progressive Master (DNxHD) that I then encode (via Media Encoder) to 29.97 interlaced.
3. Since I still have the sequence, I could change the sequence to 29.976, then queue in Media Encoder where I make the change from Interlaced to Progressive. This way it wouldn’t be two exports- but would that matter? It seems the general consensus is option 2. Is there any advantage to do it any other way? I read about 3:2 pulldown when going from 24 to 29- Does PrPro do this automatically or do I select it (I see the option on only some of the export formats)?
Thank you,
Stephen
