You want 23.98. You DON’T want 24. 24fps is strictly if you are doing a film out. 23.98 is the frame rate for 24 frame HD video.

July 11, 2008 at 12:58 amLike Shane says you want 23.98 (which is really 23.976) and then to get to 720, I’d just put your 1080 rev telecined clips in the 720 timeline. You can also adjust the geometry in Compressor so you can do a rev telecine and then a scale down to 720.
Make sense?

May 6, 2010 at 11:56 pmThank you!
This was a lot of help. I was trying to wrap my head around the different frame rates. On my project I am currently editing, 2 of 3 cameras shot at DVCPro HD 720p60 @ 23.98fps. The other was at HDV 1080i60 @ 29.97.I was able to create a custom setting in Compressor for DVCPro HD 720p60 @ 23.98fps, and brought the file into the FCP timeline without render!
Thanks again!

May 7, 2010 at 11:18 pmHey Shane,
I have the problem of 1080i60 @29.97 to go into 720p60 @ 23.98.
The 1080 was filmed in HDV, while the 720 is DVCPro HD.
Will using Cinema Tools helpme? I’m not sure how to go about doing that. Is there a link you can point me to, or give me a couple of steps? Thanks,
Corey -

No, you have to use Compressor.

Import the footage into Compressor, use the DVCPRO HD 720p 23.98 setting (Advanced format conversions), and in the FRAME CONTROLS, set everything to BEST. Pretty much. Do small tests to see, and tweak where needed.
