<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>The Master Homeowners Association in my development needs a good
wireless PA system (2 wireless handheld mics, wireless receiver
to accommodate both mics at once, 2 speakers, amp) and are
looking for suggestions. At our meeting last week they borrowed
a sole <font face=”Helvetica,
Arial, sans-serif”>hard-wired handheld <font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>mic connected
to the speakers ( evidently, just a cheap PA system owned by the
catering venue) and it was a disaster–no one could hear a
thing! While I am familiar with wireless mics that we
videographers use, I have no experience with wireless PA
systems. The HOA president has asked me for several suggestions,
so I now am asking you for recommendations. I told the president
that a decent system probably could be purchased for between 1K
and 2K. Any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations, advice?

Hello Rich and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum!
Without knowing a lot more about your specific venue, making recommendations is fraught with peril. How big is the space? How many people were there?
You said no one could hear anything. LITERALLY?
Even good, basic PA audio is not plug and play (as you have experienced).

Can you please be more specific and also post without all of the formatting cha-cha-cha?

Thanks,

Sorry, the formatting probably was caused by cutting and pasting what I had posted on Facebook.

The room size and venue may vary, but my experience was at a caterer and the charis were set up in an area about the size of a large dance floor. I estimate around 75-100 chairs were set up.

We were able to hear voices, but the PA volume not only was VERY low but a lot of the words were garbled. One of my colleagues did suggest a Peavey Escort 6000 Plug-and-Play setup (amp & speakers), but he did not follow through with my questions about the wireless mics/receivers. I looked the latter up and from what I saw/read the Peavy web site did not go in to detail about what the wireless mic/receiver kits included.

Peavey was just one suggestion, but the prices were right (about a grand for the PA/speakers and a bit under $400 for what looks like a dual-input diversity receiver with one wireless handheld/1 lav/body pack.

So given this info, do you have any suggestions other than Peavey?
