    Hi all

I have just watched the excellent tutorial by John Dickinson which goes into the wireframe features of 3D invigorator, and I have a query about the spinning globe that appears towards the end of it. I’m using an older version of AE so i can’t check the project files.

I’m cool up until fractal noise gets mentioned:

“The same fractal noise layer was used as a transparency map to cut holes into the surface”

What exactly is this fractal noise layer? How can it cut holes (or is it strips?) into the sphere primitive? And how can the ‘screens’ on the wire globe flash on and off??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

    Nico

Fractal Noise is a great effect that comes with the Professional Version of AE. In the case of the sphere I used a greyscale fractal noise layer with a blocky setting which gave me the “plates”. I animated the evolution property and used this layer as a transparency map. As the fractal noise layer evolves, the “plates” on the sphere appear to fade on and off. Check out the project that you can download with the tutorial – you’ll find the fractal noise composition in there.

    best,

    JD
