Will some one please help me? I can’t seem to get my sony HDR-FX1 camera to be recognized by wirecast. I am using a firewire cable to connect my camera to my computer and there is no video getting to wirecast. I know it can’t be my camera because i get a live feed perfectly when i use Final Cut Pro. I have tried everything i can think of and im frustrated. If some one could tell me step by step how to fix this that would be great!

You really need to detail exactly what you’ve done. I’m not sure what “everything” you tried nor what you’re seeing or not seeing.

Make sure you have NO OTHER video apps running or they may grab the camera, including Quicktime and Final Cut. Camera can only feed ONE program. Make sure the camera is selected in Device Manager and check in Asset Manager as well.

wirecast is the only thing i have running except for Safari. I have my camera connected and have tried turning it on before and after i started the wirecast program with no results.
The Camera is not listed in the Device Manager or Asset Manager.

It must be turned on before starting Wirecast 3.5.7.
Try testing in Quicktime 7.6.x using File/New Movie Recording to see if your camera shows there.

If Quicktime can’t see it, it means you may have a system problem which might involve Quicktime. Make sure you’re using Quicktime 7.6 and not Quicktime X.

Double check Quicktime Preferences and click on the little Camera icon (says Recording under it) and see if the camera shows up at all as a selectable video source.

    Sometimes they can go intermittent.

IF YOU COOSE TO DOWNCONVERT IN YOUR CAMERA WHILE YOU ARE CONNECTED VIA FIREWIRE, YOUR SYSTEM WON’T RECOGNIZE THE CAMERA. TURN OFF THE CAMERA, UNPLUG THE FIREWIRE, PLUG THE FIREWIRE BACK IN AND TURN THE CAMERA ON. SHOULD WORK THEN.

Camera needs to have a live out. What is the live out of the Canon 5D? HDMI? You’d need an HDMI input device. They’re hard to come by for laptops. Desktop computers often use Blackmagic cards. All this is unofficial territory until Telestream tests for upcoming Wirecast 4 compatibility.
