  • Will the render cache be useful one day ?

    Hi there,

I am just wondering if we will be able to use the render cache and proxy generation one day ?

From the proxy I expect to generate different file formats, so I can proxy Red media or Sony F65 into ProRes or DNxHD and just go back to the source material for final render.

And the render cache does not really seem to work for me in most cases either.
The biggest culprit is that its lost as soon as you go to Conform or exit the project.
We have a very fast storage so I would love to help our graphic cards by putting as much as possible to disk.
Also it minimized the change of GPU hickups in client sessions with picky clients.
Last important point is the multilayer topology that allows to have multiple streams with blend modes and that kills every configuration when it has to play so much and grade and blend.

So a proper render cache function, maybe not shot based but In Out based and then just pressing F12 would be awesome.

    A slice of color…

RAM cacheing / better RAM utilization would also be amazing. Even on the big projects only about 10GB out of 48 I have seemed to be used. And yet there I sit and wait for the thumbnails to get updated.

A render cache with prores/dnxhd media would really be nice. I really like doing multilayer blend modes but even with a gtx470 (and 800mB/s+ read storage for the DPX cache) realtime (and storage) is disappearing fast…

I would add some oil in the fire.

Lets say you have machine with multiple gpus.

It would be really nice if gpu 1 and 2 would work with your picture and gpu 3 would make cache in the back. I’m not really sure if it is possible in tech sense but a wild idea.

After using Resolve and premiere with proper cuda support it seems that anything is possible only if it
    is doable in software.
