Did your computer come with Tiger? Is it the new kind that can’t work with Panther any longer? I am using the DVC Pro HD codec, maybe that could be the difference? Are you using any other offsets besides the -3 frame capture offset?

I’ve reverted back to FCP 4.5 and still have the problem, I can get audio to sync using an offset but then the Time Code will lose sync. I’ve discovered that a -7.5 gets my time code right on and has the audio out of sync by only a frame ahead of the video, not bad, it’ll have to do. Tomorrow I’ll re install FCP 5 and use that same offset and go with it’ll be as close.

I’m shooting with 2 F900s and using an F500 deck for playback. Thanks for your responces, Keith

Keith..I would go with my offset of -3..I am doing the same exact capture as you are doing..DONT USE BATCH CAPTURE..capture each clip one at a time..if you use a -7.5 offset the edl list will be WRONG if you give it to an outside person for online..Trust me My settings will work..I reported the problem to AJA over 1 a week ago and they are working on it..in the meantime..try my way and take the window burn out of the 500 deck to check to see that the window on the material you capture is the same # as FCP thinks it is in the viewer window..Let me know if thiat works for you cause it does for me.

I actually went back to FCP 5 this morning and tried your settings, I think I needed to go to the latest quicktime which I hadn’t, as per your settings I did install the 7.1 update and yes it does seem to work, no batch capture is slow but at least I can work, thanks a ton.

You mentioned that you’re using DVC Pro 100, is that the same as DVC Pro HD?

    thanks, Keith

yes it is… I’m terrible with the terminology…DVCPRO100 is HD at 14 MBs per sec..DVCPRO50 is Standard Def 4:2:2 at about 7Mbs

    Steve, thanks again,

Are you digitizing entire tapes with breakes in time code or are you actually capturing take by take one at a time? I’m five days behind now and looking at hours of capturing. My assistant editor is not very happy.

    thanks, Keith

Sorry to inform you and your assistant that you must do it the hard way..Yes I have TC breaks so I am forced to log one take at a time but in addition I changed my workflow so as not to log and Batch Capture but to mark in mark out then capture clip..this avoids the sync problem…I was 4 days behind and now I am finally caught up..It really does not take more than 10-15 min per tape extra to do it this way…we just better hope there is a fix before I have to Online this Movie..one clip at a time would become extremely painful to up res an entire film.

    FYI Keith

The new 2.7 GHz G5s run just fine under 10.3.9

I have two and they came with 10.4, we erased the drives and installed 10.3 and then the 10.3.9 combined updater, all is fine.

Hey Steve, I’m running double sound and am beginning to realize that I just might batch capture video mos and use the mixers backup sound and sync, that way I’ll get the iso’d mics and 2 more of her tracks, plus it’ll make my post sound gal happy cause the mixer’s delivering 24 bit WMD files on DVD from her Diva. Every time I work on someone elses project I say to myself that when I do my project I’m gonna show everyone the right way to do it, cheap, fast and good. well this is my project and……. I’ll have to settle for good… thanks for your advice,

Everyone has forgotten Peter Wiggins original question – will the existing Kona 2 run on the new Intel based MAC computers –

    1) If it does run, AJA and Creative Cow will bill Peter Wiggins $2200, just because we don’t want you to be able to get away with no upgrade fees.

    2) Do you think by that time, AJA will have made so much money, that they will never release an upgraded HD card to run on the new MAC hardware? Maybe Rudy and Clark will be on the beach with tropical drinks, saying “screw those damn editors”.

You can do that..just remember to set the deck capture offset to -3 so the TC is correct..wow syncing all that stuff is gonna take so time as well..good luck
