Will Teranex decode closed captioning?
Posted by John Christie on May 7, 2012 at 5:07 pmHi folks
The new Teranex products look amazing! Does anyone know if they will be able to display HD closed captioning? The preliminary specs say they can pass it through, but don’t mention decoding.
Cheers
John

May 7, 2012 at 5:12 pmDon’t think so. Old teranex couldn’t either. Generally that sort functionality is reserved for QC & monitoring solutions. I don’t think there is a single product in the BMD line up that can decode captions.

The Teranex already looks too good to be true for the price. But we’re always hoping for more, right?
Cheers

Yes, for example for F I L E – B A S E D Processing:
Start up an app for Thunderbolt connected BMD Teranex,
Quicktime-file in; configure within app; press Start; processed Quicktime file out.That is F I L E – B A S E D Processing.
F I L E – B A S E D Processing is the workflow for the 21st century.
Best regards,
BernhardPS: Have I already mentioned I would like to see
F I L E – B A S E D Processing on BMD Teranex products? 😉 -

Certainly for post-production… but it’s not terribly useful for live origination and broadcast, even in the 21st century. Methinks there is still a place for both. (grin)

We live video folk have been left behind in recent history in terms of real time video STREAM processing at very reasonable prices. THRILLED to see the Teranex box in my road case… Fall, I hope…

Absolutely 🙂 … two different worlds …
But it is difficult to understand that while our NLEs and Transcoding Apps are
delivering simply a mess when it comes to scaling and de-interlacing,
we actually do have the very best HW-scalers already in our computers
but aren’t able to apply them on our files, forced to do a workaround
by sending signals out of the computer to process them !?!F I L E – B A S E D Processing is simply overdue!
This is true for every vendor of Video I/O HW.Best regards,
Bernhard
