  • Will Resolve 8 Mac license work on PC? (since The Mac Pro may be gone)

Posted by Richard Dee on October 13, 2011 at 9:55 pm

SInce Apple has abandoned Color (and the other ProApps) and may very well abandon the Mac Pro, I am hesitant to buy Resolve for Mac unless I know I can also run the Windows version with the same license/dongle. Does anyone know if this will work?

Also does 8.1 allow the use of DV codec and 720×480. I believe now I would have to transcode to ProRes and 720×486?

Yes, this is from the IBC press release…

“DaVinci Resolve for Microsoft Windows™ will be accompanied by the Mac OS X version, so when a customer purchases DaVinci Resolve, they can choose which operating system they want to use, and then install either one. This allows the flexibility to let customers potentially choose to use a Windows desktop computer in the office with powerful multiple GPU processing, while at any time the customer can unplug the dongle and plug into one of the latest stylish Mac OS X MacBook Pro computers when on set.”

    A. Mac Pros are not gone and will not be gone.
    B. With cubix and sonnet thunderbolt solutions you can add fx4000 to an iMac or mbp.
    C. DaVinci 8.1 has FCPX roundtrip support.

Do you have info on A? I’m holding off on buying a new MacPro because everyone says an update to the line is due, but I haven’t been able to find actual info from Apple about that and I’m getting antsy.
