  • Will Media Composer 6 run on a 2008 Mac Pro?

    Can MC6 run well on a Mac Pro 2.8GHz Quad-core (4-Core) Harpertown/Penryn Intel Xeon?

I ask because I got a line on one relatively cheap, but don’t want to buy if it won’t run MC6, hopefully with different streams of HD.

Yes it should run fine. I’m not sure about multiple streams…do you mean multicam?

I run a harpertown 8 core (2008). It works great. MC6 rarely ever uses beyond 4 cores, so you will fare mostly the same as me for 80% of your work.

Only consolidating and sometimes rendering uses all the cores, when using DNxHD.

MC 6 will run on all Mac Pros, including the Mac Pro 1,1, which was released in 2006.

This machine is not supported, but it runs fine. You can’t use DX hardware with this machine, as DX hardware requires the 64 bit kernel. You can use 3rd party I/O or software mode.
