  • Will a GTX 550 Ti work for me?

Someone help me out, I have a 3,1 Mac Pro, with the original ATI Radeon HD 2600. I would like to upgrade to an Nvidia GTX 550 Ti. Reasons being it is cheap, and my main uses will be FCP X, Avid Media Composer 6, and DaVinci Resolve. Would this be a good buy? I will, just, not have the grey Apple boot screen, right? No problems jumping over to Windows in Bootcamp, correct?

    The card in question. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…82E16814130625

I wanted to clarify what and why I was asking the above questions.

    1. I was asking because I wanted to know what is possible with the new Nvidia drivers and Lion 10.7.3.

    2. I wanted to know if I could replace the original ATI Radeon HD 2600 with the Nvidia GTX 550 Ti to, at least, get Resolve Lite running.

    3. I have read the Resolve manual before I asked the original question. So, I’m aware of what the manual says about which cards are recommended (gt 120, gtx 285, HD 5770, Quadro 4000 etc).

    4. I was wondering if Resolve Lite could be run on with the Nvidia GTX 550 Ti, firstly as an upgrade for the ATI Radeon HD 2600 and secondly as a GPU and addition to a GT 120 as the GUI.

    5. I’ve asked this question in the thread discussing the new Nvidia drivers but no one answered so I asked here.

It will run good as GUI card. Much better than 120. The problem could be only in PCI slots available. The computer should be Win or Hackintosh, not Mac Pro (as far as I know). I have GT440 for gui inside mackintosh.
