I’ve been trying to figure out how to make sequences in widescreen in AfterEffects. I know that you can set it in the presets, but the pixels are non-square so you don’t have an accurate representation of what it will look like on a TV screen (and it says that the aspect ratio is 720×280). What is the aspect ratio for a screen that is in widescreen (720x??)? If I can figure out the aspect ratio I think I can figure out how to put it into non-square pixels. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

First question would be – What are you trying to output to Standard 4:3 TV’s, Widescreen 16:9 TV’s, or a computer screen?

For Standard TV the aspect ratio is .9, for Widescreen 16:9 and anything HD the aspect ratio is 1.2, for a computer screen it is Square Pixels.

If you are just having trouble viewing this in AE there is a solution. Have your comp open and in the Monitor window look for a circle with a trianlge in the upper right corner of the window and click it, then click View Options. Inside view options hit the check box for Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction.

By default AE displays everything in Square Pixel. By enabling the check box, AE looks at your comps aspect ratio and displays that. I believe there is a way to have AE default with PAR correction, but I’m not sure what it is.

    ~Hope this helps~
