I want to render with a wide angle ‘fish eye’ lens.

I looked into this before and found a thread that said you need to either buy a 3rd party plugin or create a lens geometry, with a transparent & refractive material, and place this in front of the camera. This is ok but I can’t see how it’ll look until after I’ve rendered.

In 3ds max I’m sure I used to be able to see a live preview in the viewport of my lens distortion as I adjusted the camera’s focal length. This is what I’d like in C4D ideally.

How are other people getting wide angle in c4d?

I guess what you’re talking about is barrel distortion because you can easily create a wide angle lens in Cinema — it just doesn’t distort. I think that people are using the aforementioned plugin or a third-party render engine if they really need the effect (it’s possible in both finalRender and VRay4C4D).

Thanks for the response. Yep it is barrel distortion I’m after. I probably won’t be getting my hands on any of those render engines or the plugin soon so I guess I’ll have to adapt my ideas for now.
