why quicktime pro?
Hi,
I see mentions of quicktime pro here. I also combed a bit of the web trying to find a “quick” straight answer for this: What is the benefit to an FCP user for using quicktime pro over quicktime x? I know about the exporting and clip modification features, but are there extra codecs or some subtle system features it brings to final cut?
As everyone knows, FCS can be twitchy… just don’t want to mess anything up by installing something I wouldn’t really benefit from.

QuickTime X is for consumption, QuickTime Pro for creation.

Since when? It’s actually quite robust and a solid set of apps for most.
People come here when things aren’t working properly, so it may seem like a lot of people have issues, but that’s just because you’re reading about problems, very few people write in when everything is working well, because they’re busy doing work.
So, just install QT Pro like everyone else and get back to work.

The Quicktime X player is not yet fully featured. It’s missing import/export functions and is limited in it’s 3rd party support.
Apple itself advises pro users to install Quicktime 7.x in it’s documentation. You won’t mess anything up by doing so. -
David, you are absolutely right. Thanks for the clarity!
As for the content creation aspect. I’m still a media student and learning about all of this. I just have had no use for quicktime other than watching the movies I’ve made.
Since I’m still learning, we could open my question up a bit…for anyone:

That its required in order to run Final cut pro. 🙂

If you’re a ProApps user, QT Pro is automatically installed. No reason to buy it.

QT X is the seed of the future QT, but is not ready yet to take all the functions of QT Pro.
At the moment you need both, like it or not.
