Why oh why? 16:9 squished to 4:3 in H.264!
I’m trying to compress HQ ProRes 422 16:9 timelines into LAN streaming H.264s for youtube/facebook/etc. and every time I try to do so, it gets squished into 4:3-ness! Why oh why!?
I’ve tried a couple of different things including doing letterboxing through Compressor.
My settings are:
Frame size-1920×1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)
Pixel Aspect ratio-square
Field Dominance-Upper (Odd)
QTime video settings-Apple ProRes 422HELP! PLEASE!

Are you using Compressor’s H.264 LAN setting?
Is this squished in Quicktime or YouTube?YouTube has generally needed square pixels otherwise it may display the wrong aspect ratio. I’ve heard they may change that though.
When viewing a file please say WHAT your are viewing with.
Please read the post on the top of this forum about FASTEST response. With all the info I might have been able to give you a complete answer in this post instead of asking more questions.

Yes, I am using Compressor’s H.264 Q’time setting.
I have not yet uploaded them to YouTube because they’re appearing squished in Quicktime (v7.6.0)
Let’s see.
Computer is a MacBook Pro with Leopard v10.5.6
My Compressor version is v.3.0.5
Final Cut Pro version is v.6.0.5
My source codec is 1920×1080 Apple ProRes 422 Integer (Little Endian), with Timecode
My desired output is an H.264 fit for fast web streaming or something akin to suchAnd overall, I need it to keep it’s 16:9 aspect ratio after compression.

Are you sure the preset you are using is 16:9 square pixel output?
Try another output preset that specifically relates to 16:9 and see what happens
