why no playback….?
Posted by Earle Del rosario on August 2, 2011 at 5:19 pmHello:
I have Vegas5, DVD Architect2. Both programs are installed registered updated. I rendered a 30 minute video to .avi and it plays back on WindowsMediaPlayer fine. I opened it in DVD Architect2, and put a couple of subtitles, then saved it, then clicked “Make DVD,” and “Prepare DVD and burn.” Only 41% of DVD is used. It took 1.5 hours to render and burn to new DVD.My computer and WindowsMediaPlayer cannot find anything, and my Sony DVD deck says “cannot play.”
Any suggestions? thnx.

August 2, 2011 at 7:01 pmAre you using Windows XP? Vegas 5 and DVD Architect 2 are only supported on Windows XP. It sounds like you are doing everything else correctly. Also make sure that you are using discs that are compatible with your Sony DVD player. Some players only play DVD+R, some only play DVD-R, and some play both. Windows Media Player on XP cannot play DVD’s without extra software.

It would be nice if you let everyone else know what it was so that when others have this problem they can get the answer easily.

August 3, 2011 at 5:27 pmI assumed that my burner was for -+RW and -+R (since, my previous computer was that), but, this profile only says -+RW. I’ll do more editing before I pick some up.

August 3, 2011 at 6:09 pmI wasn’t referring to your burner… I was referring to your set-top DVD player. Some DVD players only accept certain media. This may be why it doesn’t play the disc.

August 3, 2011 at 6:26 pmBecause you mentioned to check the set-top player, i also checked my laptop burner hardware profile(says DVD +-RW).
The Sony set-top DVD player has sticker that says :
DVD -RW/-R
DVD +RW/+R
CD -RW/-R & MP3 -

August 3, 2011 at 7:12 pmWow, I can’t imagine why it won’t recognize the disc then. You seem to have all the formats covered. Is there something else that might have changed about your PC from the time it use to work until now? Something must have changed.

August 3, 2011 at 7:52 pmThe pc DVD hardware profile says activated/enabled, and the DVD Architect was showing a rendering time (waited 1.5 hours).
The pc DVD hardware profile shows the detail only as “DVD +-RW” (does not show “R”). Could it be that the DVD hardware can only use RW discs ?

Not likely. Usually they will support R but not RW but I can’t imagine only supporting RW without R.
Have you tried a different DVD player?

August 4, 2011 at 6:13 pmThe laptop hardware profile only shows RW, does not show R. I’ve recently burned(with DVD Arhitect2) and successfully played back(Sony deck player) a DVD -RW disc. I’ll try another deck, but for the moment i’m glad for this.
Question:
In DVD Architect 2.0, the saved project can be opened and played back(with its subtitles) from the timeline. But, after I burn it, I play it back on the DVD set-top player, and there are no subtitles.Am I rendering a different file than the file that is played back from the timeline?
The Preview shows the subtitles, and, the timeline shows the subtitles. However, the subtitles seem to not have been burned to DVD. Suggestions? thnx.
