Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Why is Smart Resample default in Sony Vegas Pro?

Ok, I make game videos so I don’t use a camera (but fraps) and there is always a problem of ghosting unless i Disable Resample… which is fine if the only choice to set this default is to pay for a script, which I am not prepared to do.

[Carl Lundell] “Cool, I don’t know how to use them. Is there a tutorial out there for this? I would like to try it.”

If you don’t have Pro, you can’t.

In every Project, regularly click the first clip in any Video track. Choose Select all events to end. Switches: Disable Resample.

Do it often. Do it before every render.

Aw, come on guys. The OP asks a straightforward question and you tell him to learn scripting? That’s like if he asked what grade of gas should he buy for his car and you send him to chemistry class.

Here’s a forum post that references a script to set all event resample properties.

Next, there is a free utility that can be used to disable all smart resample properties at once. This is particularly useful if you have a lot of events that you want to reset. It’s also a cool utility to have anyway.

Download and install the free utility, “Timeline Tools” from MoaSoftware.

Open Timeline Tools, Select the Track Event Info tab.
In the “Select Tracks” dropdown menu, select “All Video Tracks”.
Right-click anywhere in the grid and click on “Highlight All Events”.
Right-click anywhere in the grid again and select “Edit Highlighted Event Properties”.
In the Event Properties section select Resample Mode=Disable.
Close the Edit Video Event Properties window and Timeline Tools.

No one here told him to learn scripting.
He was informed that scripts, even free can automatically
disable this feature and he mentioned that he would like
to learn this feature, nothing is wrong with that….
That is how he would learn to better his craft.

[Stephen Mann] “Download and install the free utility,”

Actually there is no need to download anything or buy my plug-in. I forgot that Sony added the ability to change the resample on multiple events. That was not there when I originally wrote my plug-in which, btw, does more than just that including setting the playback rate, undersample rate, alpha channel, etc. for multiple events which you still can’t do in Vegas Pro not to mentions the audio properties.

[John Rofrano] ” I never have to touch it”

Do you Disable Smart Resample for your projects as a part of your setup routine before commencing your edit, or do you just leave it enabled to do its thing?

Interesting thoughts John. But I have never done any work in Vegas using any source, from a dl’d Youtube clip to my own Full HD camera, that looked anything but horrid when Smart Resample is on and the output is Progressive.

I leave it enabled. I also don’t shoot video with a still image camera. lol. So I guess I’m one of the only dinosaurs left that shoot video with an actual video camera but I don’t have resample problems because I always work in 60i from shooting through rendering.

Smart Resample has nothing to do with YouTube, HD Cameras, or Progressive renders. It only affects Frame Rate. If you change your frame rate, you need to be conscious of re-sampling so regardless of your source or field order of your renders, you must be changing frame rates at some point for Smart Resample to affect you.
