  • Why is 'Rename' option in 'Ess Graphics' and 'Effects control always 'Unavaile'?

In Adobe PP’s latest 2024.x version, on a Text Track, I create some point text. Then Essential graphics pnl> edit tab shows that layer (name of the text item/layer is same as whatever I’ve typed on the track). When I right click over it in Ess Grpc, the first option in the menu is ‘Rename’. But this ‘Rename’ is always unavailable. Why?

Same thing (for the same ‘text item’) is in Eff Control pnl> Graphics Group of options> there shows my text item (to the right of an ‘eye’ icon). When I right click over this ‘text item’ name, the first option ‘Rename’ is again grayed out. Next option is ‘Save Preset’ and still next is ‘Undo’, then ‘cut’, ‘copy’.

    Hi,

I don’t know if there is another explanation, but that title changes when you change the text on Canvas and it automatically changes to what you type.

That’s ok. I kind of understood this too.

But query was why the 1st option in right click popup menu named ‘Rename’ is there, and why is it always unavailable? In other words, how can we avail the option ‘Rename’ shown in my screen shot?
    Thanks.

Because that’s one of the options you can use in that section of the interface. You can activate Rename for instance when you add a shape in that section. It would probably need another level of coding to show only usable options when you click somewhere on the interface and that might make the program slower to perform. So they show all the options belonging to that section and you can see it activated when there is a viable option.

Oh!!!! OH!! Thank you very much.

You not only cleared this curiousity, but also guided about some other future queries which WERE bound to arise sooner/later. Very good explanation.
