I am doing a project on the go, so I started using my older Early ’08 Macbook Pro to edit. I have done projects on here before, and they have been perfectly fine. I even convert all my footage to ProRes, but for some reason, everything is very laggy! I don’t even have effects on my footage, and I cranked the preview resolution down to 1/4, but when I try to scrub through the timeline, it is verrry unresponsive! Like I said, i’m even using ProRes on these clips. I do have a lot of clips to edit, would that be the cause? I hope someone can help.

Problem solved! Before, I was trying to edit footage from an external USB 2.0 drive. I copied the footage to my main drive, and there was no lagging! Lesson learned, don’t use slow drives. Hah!

    Where is the footage stored?

It was on an external 1TB hard drive. I think my workflow will now be to import the raw footage from the camera to the 1TB drive, then when I convert the footage to ProRes, I will set the destination to a temporary file on my main drive. Then the original footage will be safe and untouched, while I can edit with the copies.
