Why does my ProRes footage look jagged in Premiere Pro but fine when exported as ProRes
Hi guys
I’m using Premiere Pro CS5. I have some ProRes 422HQ footage which looks awesome in QT Pro.
When I import this footage into Premiere I make a new sequence from the footage and it creates me a sequence and recognizes it as ProRes 422HQ for the codec.
Now I’m not sure why this footage looks jagged as it’s 1280 x 720 progressive footage with square pixels so it shouldn’t have anything to do with interlacing.
I’ve also made sure my Playback resolution and Paused resolution are set to high.
When I export the timeline as ProRes footage, it looks great in QT Pro.
Any thoughts?

Have you exported to see the output quality?
ProRes might not show up as “clean” when set to Fit view but it’s only while you “work” with it. There is no acutal quality loss when exporting.

Yes I have, it’s fine on export. I’ve actually tried it on ‘fit’ and 100% and it’s really jagged.
I often have my creative directors working with me and I just like to have things looking good.
It’s fine though as long as the end product is looking great. I’m just not sure why Premiere Pro doesn’t output the look of ProRes files correctly. Shame, cause it’s a great 10bit lossless codec that I love to use.

Im not clear. Is the problem when Editing or after exporting?

I’ve this same problem. Prores and also some other codecs look jagged on Premiere Pro program monitor but exports fine. And also jagged edges usually goes away if I add some filter, change field interpolation etc. So I guess when Adobe Premiere Pro’engine ‘kicks in’ and doesn’t just show codec.

Actually one of my biggest hope for Premiere CS6 is that Adobe implements full ProRes support natively like Avid did with MC6. That way Premiere wouldn’t need Quicktime for decoding and propably we wouldn’t have these strange problems.
