  • Why does FCP cut the video from my JVC GY-HD100E into small clips?

    Hello all,

I’ve just upgraded FCP 5.1 to FCP 5.1.2, to take advantage of the fact that i’m now able to get the footage shot on my HD100E directly into Final Cut without using a work around….the only problem is, when i use capture now FCP cuts my video into small clips, (they appear to be at the point i cut when filming) Does anyone know whats going on? I know that the JVC HD100U suffered from this problem, but i wasn’t aware that the HD100E had the same problem.
I purchased the camera through a company, who obtained the camera direct from JVC, (it’s a very low hours JVC rep. demo unit).
I’ve also noticed that my Decklink HD doesn’t support HDV 720p 24 frame, so i can’t view my edited footage on my broadcast monitor……I’m having one hell of a day!!
Many thanks indeed in advance for your help.

    All the best

That is the nature of HDV. It breaks up the footage where your camera starts and stops. Cannot avoid this if you capture HDV native. If you captured using an HDV deck, HD card and captured as a different format, then you would be able to do larger chunks.

This is the case with all HDV cameras.

    Hello Shane,

Many thanks indeed for your responce. Well i’m glad to hear the small clip thing is not a fault with either the camera or FCP 5.1.2!!
I could look at this as a bonus….the fact that all of my takes come into FCP as individual clips, might make things a bit easier in the edit.

Many thanks again for your prompt responce.

    All the best

    Dave
