  • Why does “Custom” button go grey when I try to render?

Posted by Thomas Woods on October 18, 2010 at 3:26 pm

When I use MPEG-2, .mp4, and several other formats, the “Custom” button goes grey and becomes unclickable. It stays on for .avi, but .avi files are so huge as to be unusable. I’m using 9.0b. A friend with a more recent version does not have this problem. Why would Vegas think it is helping me by depriving me of this button in the most important cases? I have a video that has to be rendered in 4:3, bur I never get a chance to make it 4:3. Thanks.

    Two obvious things to try:
    1) bring your project over to your friend’s place and see if the problem still exists
    or
    2) read release notes to see if it was a known issue but is now resolved.

Are you using Vegas Movie Studio? If yes, upgrade to Vegas Pro and “Custom” will be available.
