Why did BBC choose Premier Pro over Sony Vegas?
Just came across a page on the Abode website (https://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/201009/090910BBCAdoptsPremiereProCS5.html) ‘UK Broadcaster Adopts Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Software’.
“The new Adobe Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 software allows field-based users at the broadcaster to open projects faster, edit high-definition sequences in real time, and play back projects without rendering. Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 software, along with Adobe Photoshop® Extended and Adobe After Effects®, is now a native 64-bit application on both Mac and Windows®, enabling the organization to get the most out of its hardware investments.”
I am currently learning FCP 7 so I can see why they want to look elsewhere but was wondering if they considered Sony Vegas.

If they are coming from FCP they are all on Mac’s. That leaves Sony Vegas out of the running because it’s on Windows. Before you say bootcamp, it would probably be prohibitively expensive to retrain “non-computer literate” camera crews on a new OS if they already know OS X. (not to mention voiding their support contracts with Apple) So my guess is, no… an Apple shop would not consider Vegas.

God point but but I suspect this is more of a hardware than software thing. Going from one OS to another is relatively trivial compared to changing the edit system. Also the hardware thing is a little short sighted because at sometime they will upgrade and PCs are a lot cheaper than mac. However I guess they still want to run both systems at least for a period and this may be the curx of the matter. In terms of support licensing as long as it is done in an organised way and planed ahead they would simply be moving from one support vendor to another.
I wonder if Sony are thinking of porting Vegas, I believe Abode did this recently with Premier and it seems to of paid off.

I don’t believe that Microsoft supports Windows on bootcamp. At that point you are on your own and that’s not a place that corporations want to be.
Anyways… we’re just speculating here. Who knows what they looked at and why.
