  • Why can’t I see my video in the timeline?

Posted by Jon Rob on March 20, 2013 at 7:24 pm

I am so confused I really need someones help. I was using Vegas last night with no trouble at all. This morning I went to continue editing my project and something has changed. I have a video track and an audio track showing up in my timeline, but the video track is not showing any video and when I try to playback my project I only get the audio. I tried opening other video files and some of them work properly and others are giving me the same trouble. I tried restoring the program to defaults by holding “ctrl + shift” when opening the program and it did not fix my problem. I am clueless at this point and I have already spent several hours trying to figure it out on my own. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Did you try reinstalling it?
Which version of Vegas do you have and whats the video format
    you have on the timeline?

I did not try to reinstall. I do not have the original installation software anymore. I need to try to fix it without reinstalling. I am using Vegas Pro 11.0 and the files I am trying are all avi. Some will work and others will not.

Thanks for the help guys but I found an easier solution. I just had to download Windows 7 codec pack and install it. Easy fix.

Still be careful of installing Codec Packs….Can sometimes
comes back to haunt you further down the road.

Thx for the tip. I read a little about people having trouble which is why I went for a Microsoft codec pack instead of a third party installer. So far I can edit and render just as before. Fingers are still crossed
