  • Why can’t I hear my sound? Calling FCP/Decklink experts.

Posted by Harry Bromley-davenport on April 16, 2006 at 10:22 pm

I’ve just captured Canon 24f footage to FCP successfully (on the same pass) from the camera’s analog outputs to the Mac internal system using the Mac minijack plug.

Although I can see that I have captured the sound because the FCP audio meters are moving and there is a waveform visible in the viewer, I can’t hear playback.

I’ve checked the Apple Prefs sound and set input and output for BUILT IN audio. But I notice in FCP under VIEW and AUDIO PLAYBACK, that it says AUDIO FOLLOWS VIDEO – and it doesn’t allow any change to that setting because other options are greyed out.

Can anyone help me to hear my sound? It’s simply not getting from FCP to the Mac minijack output.

    Many thanks,

    Harry.

    Hi Harry,

Final Cut Pro overrides the system sound preferences. In Final Cut Pro, go to Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings (or use Cmd-Opt-Q). You should see the option for Audio Playback.

That said, monitoring audio off the Mac’s output when viewing video off the card will most likely give you audio sync issues as the 2 output devices are running off seperate clocks.

    regards
