Why are they different
Posted by Travis Radke on May 19, 2020 at 1:19 amI have two video clips that dont sound different and both were recorded on obswith the same equipment and settings. but one clip shows spikes in the audio where the other is a flat line. I don’t know if this is a problem with OBS or Vegas Pro, can you guys help? The flatline is inconvenient when editing and I dont know whats causing it.

May 19, 2020 at 6:55 pmHi Travis
We need to know how the files are internally structured. A picture won’t do that. Download this (very useful) little software :
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download
The resulting text file should look something like this, once to have analyzed it with Mediainfo:
It will give us all the details of your files.
Cheers !

May 20, 2020 at 12:14 amHi Travis
Just got your Mediainfo. I’ve got some video packaging to attend right now but I quickly glanced at it and it looks like both of them were recorded with different specs.
I would like to know, if OBS was used to record each of them, why not with the same settings ?Cheers !

May 20, 2020 at 1:04 amThat’s strange because they were recorded only a couple days apart and within that time I’m pretty sure I didn’t change the settings.

May 20, 2020 at 12:03 pmHi Travis
For now, lets try something… Make sure that only the ”flatline” audio track is selected. Right click on the track and go to Properties. Check box Normalize. Let me know what happens.
Cheers !

May 20, 2020 at 7:19 pmThat worked. Thank you. I still don’t know why my recordings are coming out flatlined but this will help with all my future editing. Thanks again.

May 20, 2020 at 7:22 pmI’ve noticed that a lot of my renders come out very quiet but normalizing them boost the audio up significantly as well so I think you’ve managed to fix two things.
