Why are my movies fuzzy/low res?
Whether I use the DV footage I capture or a clip from a DVD or a video file, my finished products are always fuzzy and when I display them on projector screens, they are terrible. I export via Compressor using a variety of formats, like MPEG4, MPEG1, or MOV, and various codecs such as Apple Intermediate, H.264, etc, and always get the same fuzzy results.
The original footage looks great in the FCP canvas. What am I doing wrong?Doug

Your canvas in FCP is much smaller than a projector screen – so any compression artifacts are much less obvious.
If you start with noisy DV or (shudder) DVD footage, you cannot expect it to hold up well on a big screen. Garbage in, garbage out….

I used some video footage from a DVD, edited it, and exported via Compressor using Mpeg2 with audio and it looked fine. I then converted the file to MPEG4 with H.264 and it looked fine too so I sent it to the big screen and it still looked fine. I guess my whole problem has been compression. I still don’t get how I can take DV footage from a camera into FCP and export it using Compressor and can’t go straight to MPEG 4 without the text going all fuzzy and attifacts showing up in the moving video. I still think it has to do with settings on the compression.
