  • Why are my different res QT MPEG4 files the same file size!??

Posted by Gizmo1990 on January 31, 2006 at 7:37 pm

When I render out a 10 sec clip using Quicktime/MPEG4 compression at 720X576 and 320X240 both the resulting files are the same size!?

    Why is this!?

    Any help appreciated.

maybe you are using a set bitrate? I honestly dont know any better, but thats just an idea.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes I am using a set (400) bitrate… but why should that mean the sizes would be the same? Ones less then half the res as the other?

this matters because the bitrate is on a per-second basis, and that means you’re getting the same amount of bits per second in both of the videos (basically, you are just cramming more info into the smaller one that is not needed.)
