  • Why are graduated edges visible in hugely magnified layers?

Posted by Tim Andrews on January 19, 2010 at 8:00 pm

[sorry if this is trivial, but it looks strange to me]

    a. create a comp.
    b. add a Layer, smaller than the comp. (e.g. 10*10 px)
    c. Apply a huge magnification to the Layer (e.g. 10,000%)
    d. Move the Layer so as to see it’s edge.

The edges of the Layer all appear graduated. Almost like a glow. I was expecting clean, straight edges. The magnification should not introduce any distortion.

Is this a feature or a bug? And is there a way to prevent it?

    Thank you.

You need to educate yourself on the difference between raster and vector-based images.

    You can start here.

Many thanks to Dave for the explanation. I assume it affects the rendering of both Raster and Vector layers.

There’s more information about layer quality and subpixel positioning here:
