Activity Forums Avid Media Composer who is buying the new Nitris DX or Mojo DX?

I am looking at them. But then again I was cutting 30 minute shows on a media composer when the big step forward was getting the Avid Broadcast Video Board (a steal for a mere $10,000) which if I remember right brought those nifty AVR’s 73 and 75 and no more toggling on the mac screen.

That was back in the days of those cool little boxes all stacked up and daisy chained together. 6 boxes holding 9gb drives for a whopping 54 gbs of storage for the paltry average of $2500 per box (yep $15,000 for 54 gbs, and people wonder why I laugh when they complain about terrabyte raids costing a few thousand)

Allo fthat to say, yes I am looking at one, my first choice to cut on is as its always been an Avid.

We’re certainly considering it. Our MacPro currently runs FCP 6 and MC 2.8, and is our only HD-capable finishing suite with the Blackmagic in FCP, however it can be pretty painful finishing Avid sequences in FCP (especially when there are late changes from offline after the sequence is captured).

Once they’re out and we can evaluate how if might fit in with our work, and get a better idea about what our work will actually be (NZ has only just started HD production, I am currently onlining the countries first HD drama series in FCP) then we’ll figure it all out.

Personally I’d love to get one, I am much more at home in Media Composer than FCP, but it’s not my money.

I just dropped coin on two SDI Mojo’s. Our goal is to go tapeless (either P2 or EX, which I understand is fully supported in MC 5.8.3). We just don’t have that much call for HD in the government world – yet.

I plan to purchase one for my home system. More than likely the Mojo DX. Most of the decks I use have HD-SDI inputs and outputs so I can’t really justify the Nitis DX. But then again what the Heck.

    not me, man.

I’m in “wait and see” mode at the moment on the MojoDX. If the cost comes down and people are using it with success (and Bob gives it his thumbs up) maybe I’ll jump into the fire one more time.

Yes, we are upgrading to MC Nitris DX. Our MC Adrenaline was upgraded to 2.7 without upgrading the computer and it worked well for a while. But now that I’ve started adding a lot of graphics layers, it is inadequate (though still fine for editing).

So we are staying with Avid but adding FCS also. With Automatic Duck, we will be able to match the machine to the needs of the project.

John, how has the Automatic Duck been working for you in regards to your FCP and AVID NitrisDX Project crossovers?
