Who are the big boys in London?
Hi there
Im about to embark on a trip to the UK and before i go, i would like to make contact with some of the leading post production companies in London, but i don’t know where to start.
A google.co.uk search doesn’t really bring up much. Is there an industry site that the big boys advertise in, or does anybody know where i can find the names of businesses that do alot compositing and broadcast design work.

The biggest of boys in Soho are probably places like: –
The Mill
Framestore CFC
Rushes
Smoke & Mirrors
VTR groupSome of those (Mill & Framestore esp.) are mainly film-based, but I think both do some TV aswell. You’re probably looking at Inferno/Flame or similar for a main VFX/Compositing position, then I guess a few seats Shake/DF/Nuke/poss AE for support work?
Good luck, as soon as I decide that London is no longer an ugly prospect to live in then I’ll probably end up tapping at their doors aswell! Meantime I’ll stay on my more modest jobs up here in the North!

Online you can search Kemps (www.kftv.co.uk) but they list hundreds of companies not just the biggest ones. Check Broadcast Freelancer website and the other Broadcast owned sites and find a library in London with a copy of The Production Guide which they publish. Some guides such as LeBook do the sifting for you but there are loads of houses in London doing quality work. What that means is subjective and they all have their own niche. If you have the right kind of CV you could give Soho Editors a try for freelance work. Alternatively just go and hang around in pubs on Dean Street wearing an Autodesk branded t-shirt.
