I just purchased a new version of FCP7, not an upgrade, and am getting white viewer and white canvas windows when loading projects created in FCP6. I get clean playback to my Matrox MXO connected monitors, but can’t get playback on my laptop’s viewer and canvas–both are white, the canvas has occasional ghost images of timeline almost posterized green and pink, but very faint.. Viewer and Canvas are set to RGB. Trashed preferences. Just replaced logic board and put new hard drive in.
If I unplug Matrox, and change easy setup to DVCPROH 72024p I still get white canvas and viewer.

Open the media into the QT player. What do you see and what does it say in movie info?

    All the best,

This happened to someone else and they made a new user and it solved it.

White canvas and viwer ususally means that your output is set to Alpha, chnage it back to RGB. This is located near the top of the canvas and viwer with the three little pill looking buttons. Select the one on the right and choose RGB from the drop down.

If that doesn’t work, try a new user.

    Tom: Plays in QT fine
Jeremy: RGB buttons on, will try new user. I think you are right about the new user. I had to change my password on my user file to let me even load FCP, or any other program, somehow the password got screwed up when I loaded a clean version of Leopard.
    Thank you.

Dear James, how did you end up solving this?
On my Macbook Pro, neither making a new user nor reinstalling quicktime helped and I’ve obviously checked the RGB button.
Any advice? I’m getting a little desperate as nothing seems to help..

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?
    I have the same issue!
    THanks,

Strangely enough, creating a new user account on your computer, and opening FCP from there does the trick..
