  • Which XDCAM clip browswer and how to get it to work?

Posted by Delaney Ruston on October 1, 2012 at 1:23 am

Hi, I have a Macbook Air and don’t have FCP on it. I have a sony ex1, new to me. I am going into the field to shoot for a week and want to use XDCAM clip browswer, I have 2.1 version but when i tried to bring in a BPAV folder, it didnt let me. Also, I just upgraded my computer and the XDCAM looks all black, a different look then i think i saw in the past. Is this right? Where can i get the latest version if i should get a different one?

    Thank you so much!!! Delaney

Is not the Clip Browser what you need, but the SONY Transfer Tool.
There is an “XDCAM & Related” forum here in the COW.

You are right, the Clip Browser is to preview the clips (also to copy the BPAVs on the HD and to rewrap QT-XDCAM files on BPAVs again), but to re-wrap the MP4 as QT and make them editable by FC, the software you need is the Transfer Tool.
When you install it, an standalone application (XDCAM Transfer) and an FC plugin get installed. You can use the application without opening FC, or do it from inside FC (Import XDCAM) to convert the stuff from the SxS card ready for editing.

    Great, Andy.
I had no idea about the “all in one”.

Ah well Rafa .. just because it exists doesn’t mean its as good as the sum of its parts, I’m still very partial to XDCAM Transfer myself, but I thought it was worth throwing into the mix. 🙂

    Cheers
