Which processor to choose?
Hello, this is my first post, I have been browsing this forum for few evenings and still couldn’t get the answer on my question.
I am looking to upgrade computer and going to buy new processor and RAM with it.I can’t choose between
AMD PHENOM II X6 1055T and Intel Core I5-760.I want to follow the 2Gb RAM for each core rule. That would be 4Gb x3 for AMD and for I5 2Gb x4 I assume?
I will be using Sony Vegas 10 64Bit, and looking to use more After Effects in the future. So is there real need to go for 6 Cores or better take I5 and get the same amount of RAM? -

I would take a look at some of the benchmarks at Tom’s Hardware, https://www.tomshardware.com.
I am quite satisfied with my i7 920. There seems to be a concensus that Vegas works better with an Intel/Nvidia combination. But others like AMD’s offerings.
If I were building today I would choose another i7.

The AMD offering is very competitive in terms of performance and price. It was not around when I was building a system so I settled on an i7-920 as well.
If you are on Vegas Pro 10, you should consider the NVIDIA 470 or 480 series video cards as the rendering engine makes use of the CUDA cores.

I also have been using AMD instead of Intel, and it has been working very well for me. No complaints. Also the NVidia cards seem to do a great job, though I think that I might need to go to dual video cards in my unit. My second monitor can’t seem to keep up, though AVCHD playback in Vegas 10 is fine on my primary monitor. So if I had to do it over again, I’d use dual cards.
