which non apple graphic card in mac pro 3,1 to use with fcp7-fcp x-premiere?
i’m running a mac pro 3,1/10.6.8/with stock gt8800/512 graphics card.
i’m hoping to eek out a bit more life from this mac pro by upgrading the graphics card.
by upgrading to mavericks (or mountain lion), i can access non-apple graphic cards but lose the boot-up screen.
but i’m unsure of which graphic card will fit/work/be effective in my mac pro.
it has been recommend to me the EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Graphic Card:

any thoughts on the above card?
any other cards that might be a better solution?

Hello! I got it, the 660Ti 2048MB non Apple. Before on a 3,1 now on 5,1. Works.
On 10.9.4 seems works a lot of GTX, also the 690, but don’t know in 3,1, if power supply is enough.
Yo don’t have the EFI boot but as I learn around the web, if you need it you should leave en Apple for screen and use the GTX just for CUDA.Apple Mac Pro “Twelve Core” 2.93 (2010/Westmere)

Great card that should work for all the NLEs you mentioned. It’s relatively affordable too. Another example would be a Quadro 4000 which is a bit more pricey, doesn’t offer more performance but is engineered very well (better than GeForce). Either choice is good.
