I would like to know if i’m buying the right speed dvd blank media to burn too.
My new Dell 8400 desk top series pentium 4 640 3.2 ghz says it has a 16x DVD+/-RW DRIVE. I Have vegas5b and dvda3. I’ve heard you shouldn’t burn faster then 8 speed? I’ve heard Taiyo Yuden out of Japan is a good media?
Could someone give me some directions what speed or brand they would recommend for my computer?

Also I just bought a Dell 9300 laptop pentium M 1.86 ghz which i would like to buy an external dvd burner. any recommendations? Thank you……

I also would like to add…….I bought some media i thought was something else called Ridata. Should I use this media to burn wedding copies?

Ridata are from Ritek and they have a good reputation for reliability. I have also read good reports about Taiyo Yuden. Speed wise, most recommend 4x but these are becoming harder to find – 8 x are becoming more common. I have heard no reports about 16x discs.

Regarding burner – if you’re using DVDArchitect there’s a list of “approved” brands at Sony’s site somewhere. I would get a Dual Layer model even if you’re not using these yet.

I think most models will burn either + or – , so keep your options open.

FWIW, I never burn over 4X, and I have yet to have a customer complain that their disc won’t play.

Well, one, but she only had a CD player.

    Thanks for the tip Steve.

    [ Mental note – 4x DVDs don’t play on CD PLayers 😉 ]
