  • Which is faster? AE or Photoshop for 3D model movement?

I have model of a plane that I have lit and applied our company logos all over within Photoshop CS4. Now that NucleoPro 2 works with AECS4 I can of course bring 3D Photoshop files into AE and control the movement.
I’m not doing anything to complicated. I don’t need to have the plane cast shadows. Just want to do a fly by, tilt the wings to show off the logo and fall out.
Would it be faster to do all this key framing within Photoshop and then export out as a Quicktime movie with an Alpha channel or just stick with After Effects?
Right now I’m just doing a “fast” RAM preview and it is dog slow.
If you have any experience with this, it would be a great help.

Well I think I discovered the answer to my own question and I should share.
Photoshop has one camera. If you set up your model with point lights, your just moving your model through those areas of space and hitting the lights. When you bring the model into AE your moving the model and its lights (if you are using point lights.) I’m not entirely sure, but I believe spot lights stay put both in Photoshop and AE.
Now Photoshop does have render setting and these too are brought over into AE. Change the render setting in Photoshop model document and you change the render setting of the model in AE. This is live so you can set it to the lowest form for trying to work out your animation. When it comes time to make a final render, just remember to go back to Photoshop and set all your render settings for the model document to what you want, and reload the footage in AE.
