My hard drive crashed recently and it had the Windows Media Center OS that came with the computer. I had some problems with that OS and had read that it had some incompatabilities with some video editing software. So now I’m trying to decide which other operating system I should install in its place, Windows XP Home or XP Professional. Is there any real advantage to XP Pro when it comes to video editng in Vegas? The features indicate that it works with muti-processors. I have a Intel quad core, will it run any faster than XP Home with that processor? The disadvaantage to XP Pro is that when I want to eventually install the free Vista Home Premium that I received with the computer I can only do a clean install which means several weeks of reinstalling my programs. Your suggestions please.

I am unaware of any advantage that XP Professional has over XP home for use with Vegas.

Thanks, Gary, any update on your new training DVDs for Vegas 7 and DVDA 4?

These are about that xppro has multiprocessor support,
    but home does not.
I’m running on pro so I don’t know – but if that’s true
    better choose xp pro.

Anyone here running vegas on xp home?

XP Home has full support for multiple cores, but not for multiple CPUs. Home should be fine for your setup. In my house, more than one person uses the PC for various tasks. For this reason, and for a few others, I went with Pro.

I’m using XP Home on my editing machine with absolutely no problems at all. Got XP Pro on my internet machine because I built it and had to buy the operating system myself.

2000, XP Home or Pro, all good. Not hearing good things about Vista though.
