  • Which files is Premiere storing in the System directory?

Posted by Philippe Verdoni on March 2, 2010 at 5:36 pm

My Project Settings are always set to store the captured and preview files on a partition other than the system partition and the Media Cache as well. However each time I have to restore my Operating System, when I am launching a project for the first time after the restoration, Premiere CS4 spend a lot of time to generate new files which apparently where absent from the System image used by the restoration process.
    My question is
1 – what are these files
2- can I change the Project settings in order that these files be stored in an other directory?
    Thank you for your assistance.

Check: Edit > Preferences > Media and change the directory to the media cache files. It’s also good to clean these out once in a while.

Thank you for this information. I do not understand the difference Premiere between the files stored in memory and media data base.

I’m bot sure I can provide an exact answer to that one, I’m no software engineer.

The media cache folder that I pointed to above mainly stores Pek files, which basically are audio reference files. All audio is converted into a format that can easily be previewed on the timeline.
