  • Where to make a hole in my G5?

    Hi.

I have a dual 2 1st gen with the 6800 that takes up a PCI slot in addition to the AGP, a Rocket RAID and a BlackMagic HD PRO card.

All well, except that I have to get 8 SATA cables into the Mac… -;))

    I see two options.

1: To make a hole in the grill on the backside

    2. To make an opening in the door.

Because the door-model will not involve risking to get metal particles on the mainboard, I’m leaning that way. I’ll have to make a hole in the plastic case as well. But I wonder if this would destroy the fantastic airflow features of the G5?

    Any ideas?

I would not do either…. but if I had to choose, I’d go with the back grill… just use a drill with a vacume attached.

    Thanks,
    Harry.

    Hi,

Is there a SATA card on the market with 8 external ports?

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch

    1. I did the Grill and it works just nice.

    2. Not that I’m aware of, but it should have been! that is exacly my problem, I have the disks in an external
cabinet and have to get the cables in.

    Done now.
    Works.

    Thanks!
