Hi, I have an upper Manhattan client I can’t help. He says he needs to “fix the sync” on a DVD he received after giving a performance overseas. He says it’s a fixed amount– less than a frame off. (he’s a conductor and would know). I haven’t seen it, or know tech details. Since this one DVD is all that he has, is it possible to use an authoring program to “rip” the files, re-sync them in that program and burn from there. I know I could make it right on an avid, but I figure this authoring approach will preserve whatever picture quality is present on his DVD. Is this correct?

He then wants to duplicate it and use it as his demo. Where do I send him?

    Thanks,

    Matt

Depending on what it’s authored on it can be done. Sonic Solutions uses a technology they developped called “Open DVD” which allows DVD to be reedited as needed without going through the whole remux process.

If not, then perhaps ripping it, and reautoring with an offset may work. Youmay want to try a facility that does autoring profressionaly as a service. Give PostWorks a call on 100 6Th Avenue as a start.

Thanks Michael. They did a nice job on the Dylan film, too.
