  • Where the heck are the video tool, the scopes and the color bars?

Posted by Tony Breuer on July 26, 2012 at 8:34 pm

This may be a brain fart on my part, but I can’t find the video tool or the color bars or scopes. I did a search in the manual and it says you can access it via the tools menu or the capture tool. That’s where I’e always found it before and I’ve been editing on Avids since 1992. It ain’t there now. When I click Video Output settings it take me to the Martrox settings under System Preferences.

This happened since I installed a new Matrox Mini to replace one that died after three years of working.

I am running Symphony 6.0.1.1 on a MAC Pro 2 x 2.26 Quad Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB ram

    OS X 10.7.4

    Matrox MXO2 mini software 3.0.0.0073

    Any ideas?

Thanks Neil. I found that, but does this mean you can no longer use the scopes in editing mode? Also what about color bars and test patterns?

Test patterns are in the APPLICATIONS folder, in the AVID MEDIA COMPOSER>SUPPORTING FILES>TEST PATTERNS folder.

And you make tone media the way you always have. Open the Audio Tool, Click on the PH button at the top and choose CREATE TONE MEDIA

Thanks Shane. I was really hoping that I was missing the Video Tool buried in some obscure menu.

Why do they fix things that “ain’t broke”.

I’m loving the Symphony most of the time, but hating some of the changes.

i never knew you could open the scopes in source/record mode, i like it via a floating window ala FCP 7 also, and if they took it out, thats lame.

Avid has the tough balancing act of updating the software to appease those who feel it is dated and needs a change, and those who feel that nothing is wrong with it as is. It does need updating, but the stuff that works needs to say.

    It’s a tough balance.

Couldn’t people that think mc is fine just as it is, just not update? Know people still running meridian hardware.
