    Hello all,

Read the post below about FireWire for 60hz recorded capability on 1200A. There seems to be some major skirting around the issue here.

FACT Cameramen and Post solution providers here in Australia and I am sure in other 50HZ countries are reading in US magazines etc about the amazing workflows of Varicam pictures handled via firewire ( 59.94 based recordings ).

FACT Clients of ours rent our varicam and despite all of our warnings want to cut their projects on laptops just as they read, you know on the plane on the way home or at their coffe shop!. This leads to major disappointment and dissatifaction. Industry buzz here is not favourable to Varicam.

FACT FCP HD is gaining momentum here in Large Post houses that have resisted so far to protect their AVID Post Solution investment. It may just be an ingest station at this stage. BUT they are asking us how come they can’t have HD100 over firewire for offline!!! How come we are blowing away these potential clients.

FACT we use BMD Extreme to ingest and dont have problems but not everone wants to tool up with a Video card and the PCI – X to PCI – E to PCI – MACTEL E is un known and has stalled investment so the timing of FW support now would be superb!

FACT If Panasonic enabled the 1200A with firewire output and support for 60HZ based recordings: 1/ we would be happy with our purchase. 2/ Our camera would be far easier to market to producers and editors. 3/ Apple would be keen to add 60HZ based recording capability to FCP for an ingest solution that might actually be achievable and needed!.

We have been contacted by our long suffering local VAR here in Aus to send ideas to the factory to help Panasonic speak to Apple about closer co – operation.

I’ll give you the short answer: Mr Okamoto – Varicam Guru at Panasonic in Japan. Please have your boys write the firmware upgrade for the amazing little 1200A VTR so as HD100 tapes shot 25fps@60HZ base can be sent to FCP just as they can in Japan/USA. Please also co operate with Apple by telling them when you are going to do it.

WISH LIST – Please do it quickly

    Rant ends

Can you add to the letter above “sooner rather than later”? This is a real lump in the road of Varicam being adopted in New Zealand too
