  • Where does one go to get After Effects/Mocha Tutoring?

    Hi group-

I’m doing some effects for a small film I made and I’m trying to teach myself advanced tracking and After Effects. I’ve just started using AE CS4 and in particular the Mocha planar tracker. I keep running into problems so I’m looking to hire a Mocha guru for some one on one tutoring. I’ve taken a few classes and watched a bunch of online tutorials but I think I need a guru/tutor to help me get to the next level.

I have no idea where I go to find such people…. If anyone can point me in the right direction (or, if you’re a teacher/tutor and can help me), I’d appreciate it. I’m in Los Angeles, California.

    Thanks,

    David Bertman

    Dave –

Have you checked out the tutorials on https://www.curiousturtle.com/ ?

I’ve got a couple tutorials on Mocha coming out in a few weeks, but I’m guessing that’s not fast enough for your current situation.

Can you give any details about the types of shots you’re trying to approach?

    Hey Carl-

The shot is a tilt and pan from one side of a library wall to the other. I’m trying to attach jumbo-trons to the back and side walls… It should be simple as there are huge unobstructed planes (the whole back wall, the whole side wall, etc) and very little movement in the shot. The problem is its pretty dark (not a lot of contrast) and it was shot on 16mm, so its pretty grainy. The tracker keeps latching onto the grain. I’m sure there are tricks or techniques that experienced motion graphics artists use, but I haven’t learned them yet (hence the reason I’d like to get individual tutoring)

If you’re curious, I have put the shot on my .mac idisk. (This is not the full rez version- the full rez is 1920×1080) Heres the link — https://homepage.mac.com/dbertman/filechute/GRANDTILTorig.mov

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Hi David,

I took a look at your shot and was able to get a decent result pretty quickly.

Feel free to contact me off list and we can work something out.

    Cheers,
    Ben
