  • Where did APack go? Need to make 5.1 .ac3

Back in the day, DVDSP and FCP 4.5, we had that a.pack program to turn Aiffs into ac3 files… well I’ve finally got 5.1 discreet channels I want to make a quick DVD, but this program is gone. Compressor has a 5.1 setting, but for the life of me I can figure out how to assign each of these 6 discreet aiffs to the 5.1 channels.

    Anyone? Please?

You dont need A.Pack. Use Compressor.

Its in the Compressor Help, on page 103.

    (or search “Surround Group”)

Thanks John, I did eventually go into the manual and figured it out. Guess I should have done that before posting 🙂

Even if there’s one thing missing: We used to have that nice little decoding window built into A.Pack…

But I don’t wish those ole days of multi-cpu crashes back.

If you want it back, install DVDStudio Pro 3 and you will get it back. I think you can install it separately if you choose custom install and only install compressor. It will install compressor and A.Pack. You will first have to pull the current compressor out of the apps folder temporarily….then when the old one is installed, rename the app and bring the newer one back into the apps folder. BTW, this will also restore Quicktime exporting to MPEG-2 directly off the FCP timeline or out of QT Player.

Listing the page number wasnt meant as a dig…I just was too lazy to type it all.

FCP 4.5 still had APack shipping with it, so I you have that FCP version you’ll also have APack. I still use that program with my old G4 running OS 10.3.9.
