  • Where are the other blend modes that FCPX has, like silhouette alpha, behind, etc?

I brought an edl from FCPX that includes a broken apart compound clip, which had an animated mask, with different clips above and below (or in “front” and “behind”). The effect is not coming through, so clearly the blend modes didn’t come across in the xml, but when I look at the blend modes in Resolve to recreate it, I don’t see the ones I used in FCPX.

    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks

You basically have to treat something like this as a VFX in any program outside FCPX (or whatever created it). You would have the same problem in Baselight, Lustre, Mistika, or any color-correction software (and also in Avid or Premiere).

One possibility would be to have the FCPX editor export the different layers, color-correct them separately, and then composite them back in FCPX or your VFX software of choice. Another way to go would be to have a VFX person do the composite and then give you external mattes to color correct the individual pieces of the composite as required. (External mattes are covered in the manual.)

Yup. For stuff like that you’ll need a full res export from FCX of those GFX. OR…do what I do, and ask for a full res textless export of the whole project. I use that to patch areas like this, or where there are stills with moves, or any number of things.
