  • When you update a project does it not update in another project?

    hi there

ok say you’ve got a project and you’ve imported another project into it. if you then go and change the other project, this doesnt get updated in the main project does it?

would you recommend only importing a project into another project once it is fully finished….there is no way of updating the project, as you would with a photoshop layer (edit original)….

    thanks!

Nope. Once you import a project, it becomes independent, and is not linked to the old project. AE treats projects differently from footage, in other words.

Regarding your other question, I would import project A into Project B even if A wasn’t finished. Why? Because I could always finish A inside B.

But if I had more than one person working on a job, and Person A knew Project A, then I’d let him finish it before I (Person B) imported it into my Project B.

the comps and layers that get imported from project ‘a’ become part of project ‘b’. they are not linked to the comps in the original project. if you make changes to the comps in project ‘a’ and need those changes in project ‘b’ you will need to reimport project ‘a’ to get those modifications.

so, yes, if you plan on making changes to comps that you plan on using across multiple projects, you should wait until you are finished with changes to project ‘a’.

now, if you make changes to rendered footage/images etc… those will update across projects, so you could render the necessary comps in project ‘a’ then import that footage to project ‘b’. then if you change the rendered comps, you can rerender with the same file name and location and those renders will be updated in project ‘b’.
